Hays has partnered with a local educator seeking an experienced Executive Officer to join their Governance and University Secretary Portfolio.

Your new role
The Governance and University Secretary Portfolio supports and enables governance within the organisation, you will be responsible for providing high-level executive support (including strategic and operational advice) to the Director Governance and University Secretary.
Reporting to the Director Governance and University Secretary, key responsibilities include:
- Lead the support for the Director Governance and University Secretary, including preparation and coordination of correspondence, briefing notes, submissions and reports, prioritisation on complex and confidential issues including matters for discussion with University Council and other Committees.
- Undertake general Executive Officer duties, including conducting research and high-level analysis and drafting background papers including Council and committee papers
- Support the Director Governance and University Secretary in the management of emergent and sensitive issues
- Developing and presenting effective solutions to sensitive, multifaceted problems within tight timeframes and where there may be little or no precedent; ensuring that emerging priorities are dealt with accurately and expeditiously.
- Monitor key deadlines, follow-up responses, and initiate contact where deadlines are close or have been exceeded
- Research and provide innovative recommendations regarding policy and/or strategic issues; recommendations are discussed with the Director Governance and University Secretary before finalisation or referral to another area of the corporation
- Ensure the efficient conduct of meetings, taking meeting minutes, creating agendas and circulating papers, and following up with / circulating resulting actions
- Limited diary management support may be required
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with key stakeholders, always noting confidentiality
What you’ll need to succeed - Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or proven experience delivering policy outcomes and strategic planning within a complex, sensitive and high-volume environment
- Previous experience as a senior executive officer, or similar role
- Demonstrated experience in governance or providing high-level support to senior stakeholders, including board-level persons
- Experience in undertaking research and analysis and drafting reports/background papers
- Ability to use initiative, discretion and tact, maintaining confidentiality where required
- Strong communication skills, proven relationship-building experience with stakeholders
- Tech-savvy, able to quickly pick up new systems/technology platforms; experience in Board/governance platforms will be ideal
- Strong organisational skills, able to manage competing deadlines
- The successful person will be required to complete a National Police Check prior to commencement
