IT Program Manager - Applications
Group IT provides technology strategy, governance, delivery, and support for all of Toll. The team enable Toll with the right technology foundations and business systems to grow the business and support our customer needs.
The Role
Join Our Team as an IT Program Manager - Applications!
Join Toll IT Services (ITS) in partnership with the Divisional Information Technology (IT) functions based in Melbourne as an Applications Program Manager. In this pivotal role, you will significantly contribute to Toll's global business, supporting financial and tangible benefit objectives, as well as non-financial goals such as positive teamwork, health & safety, and fostering Toll’s diverse culture.
As the Applications Program Manager, you will provide guidance and direction to the ITS Leadership team, Application Service Owners, and related ITS functional groups in the development and delivery of global Applications initiatives. You will engage with key stakeholders, including the Global Head of ITS, Office of the CIO, Divisional Heads of IT for Logistics Australia & Asia, Global Forwarding, Government & Defence, and Corporate & Enterprise, to ensure effective delivery and ownership of programs and successful transition to operations.
You will ensure that the development and delivery of assigned programs and projects align with the Projects@Toll framework, establishing the required program governance across the lifecycle of the program. Strong stakeholder management and communication will be essential to enable visibility and engagement at all levels of the organisation, both internally and externally, to facilitate successful delivery.
The Program Manager is accountable for ensuring the successful delivery of assigned programs and projects within agreed parameters (scope, cost, time, quality, and risk), ensuring that deliverables meet business expectations.

A day in the life of an IT Program Manager - Applications at Toll Group:
- Project Lifecycle Management: Plan, control, and manage the delivery of business and technology programs and projects over the full project lifecycle (assessment, initiation, design, build, test, deployment, and service transition to operations).
- Expert Guidance: Provide expert advice and guidance to senior leaders and the Toll business on the development and delivery of Applications initiatives and operational requirements
- Resource, Financial, and Business Case Management: Manage the project structure, schedule, resource planning, milestones, dependencies, financial management of program budgets, tracking of benefits, and preparation of business cases.
- Team and Stakeholder Management: Manage a team of multidisciplinary and globally diverse resources, establish strong relationships with stakeholders and vendor partners, and manage project-related communications and engagement activities.
- Risk, Quality, and Governance Management: Proactively manage risks, issues, and variations, apply appropriate project governance, manage quality and deliverable acceptance processes, and ensure alignment of program/projects Applications solution architecture to enterprise and domain architecture policies.
- Reporting and Reviews: Report accurately on progress and project status, and participate in post-implementation reviews and health checks, making recommendations and identifying lessons learned.
About You:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related discipline
- PMP / PMI / PRINCE2 /PMBOK or equivalent certification desirable
Skills
- IT Planning and Delivery: Demonstrated successful experience with IT planning and delivery of complex programs within a large-scale global organisation.
- Transformational Programs and Presentation Skills: Experience working in a fast-paced and challenging environment with exposure to transformational programs, and excellent presentation skills to senior executives.
- People and Vendor Management: Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and commercial and technical engagements with vendors and systems integrators.
- Large-Scale IT Projects and Team Leadership: Proven track record of successfully delivering complex, large-scale IT projects (program/project budgets in excess of $10m+), and experience building and leading multidisciplinary program/project teams across global geographies.
- Applications Upgrades and Vendor Management: Experience with large and complex applications upgrades/migrations (e.g., financial applications, corporate applications, warehouse management systems), and managing commercial and technical engagements with hardware vendors and systems integrators.
- Business Technology Change and Outsourced IT Providers: Experience designing and implementing business technology change plans involving large-scale technology upgrades, working with third-party (outsourced) IT providers and/or system integrators, and understanding business and IT needs in logistics and transport operations.
- Strategic Thinking, Effective Communication, and Motivation: Commercial acumen, strategic thinking, effective communication, ability to create partnerships and teamwork, make effective decisions, and being a motivated, results-driven self-starter who can work effectively in a team environment or autonomously as needed .
