The Role – A Day in the Life of Scape’s Senior Legal Counsel
As our Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll act as a trusted advisor across the business, delivering practical legal advice that helps guide major deals, ensures compliance, and supports day-to-day operations. You’ll work across a broad range of areas—from commercial contracts and corporate governance to construction, disputes, and employment matters.
Here’s a taste of what your day could look like (but not limited to!):
- Provide strategic legal advice across commercial, corporate, real estate, and construction matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of agreements—from property development deals to operational service contracts.
- Guide the business through complex transactions, working closely with our investment, development, and operations teams.
- Advise on governance, compliance, and regulatory frameworks to ensure best practice across the group.
- Manage external legal providers, balancing quality, risk, and commercial value.
- Support internal stakeholders on issues ranging from workplace relations and privacy to intellectual property and dispute resolution.
- Develop and maintain internal policies, frameworks, and templates to enable efficiency and minimise legal risk.
- Collaborate with leaders to identify and manage legal risks, offering commercially sound, risk-balanced solutions.
- Assist with board and Investment Committee documentation, ensuring it meets legal and strategic requirements.
- Proactively scan the horizon for legal developments and keep teams informed on key legal and regulatory changes.
What Makes You Successful
You’re a commercially minded legal expert who thrives on variety and loves partnering with the business. You're practical, proactive, and known for delivering smart, strategic solutions—not roadblocks. You're comfortable working at pace, managing multiple projects, and translating legal speak into real-world outcomes.
Here’s what sets you apart:
- You hold a Law degree and a current Australian Practising Certificate.
- You have 6+ years post-admission experience, ideally with at least 1 year in-house.
- You bring experience across real estate, commercial, and corporate law.
- You’re confident drafting, negotiating, and advising on complex contracts.
- You’re proactive and solutions-focused, with excellent judgement and attention to detail.
- You can balance legal risk with commercial reality and communicate with impact.
- You’re a team player with a high sense of ownership and responsibility.
- You thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with multiple moving parts.
