Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.
 
About the role
 
The Solicitor I-III role is responsible for:
Providing high quality advice, minor assistance and casework services in areas such as consumer, mental health, human rights, employment, housing, immigration, social security, and/or coronial inquests, or other areas of civil law.
The solicitor may work in a specialist team or general civil practices across NSW.
Roles include:
·       Generalist roles – metropolitan and regional offices
·       Specialist roles - including Housing, Human Rights, Employment and Consumer
·       Specialist Government Law roles - Social Security, NDIS, Veteran’s Law and Immigration
·       Disaster Response Legal Service - a statewide service providing legal help to communities impacted by bushfires, floods and storms
 
About you
 
The successful applicants will be enthusiastic and committed team members able to conduct an effective and efficient civil law practice. The role includes providing high quality civil law advice, minor assistance and casework services to disadvantaged clients. You should be able to communicate with people from a variety of backgrounds and work with relevant stakeholders and service delivery partners. 
 
We may use this recruitment to create a talent pool for similar ongoing or temporary vacancies we have over the next 18 months.

The essential requirements for this role
 
You must:
 
·       be admitted or be eligible for admission as a legal practitioner in NSW
·       be able to provide a current NSW Practising Certificate before you start work with us
·       be willing to do a Criminal Record Check and Working with Children Check
·       hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
·       have a Driver Licence if the role requires one. This may be an essential requirement for roles located at regional offices.
