Gunbalanya Meats operates under Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation Employment (ILSCE) (Formerly known as Primary Partners) which is a wholly owned subsidiary company of the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC). The ILSC is a corporate Commonwealth entity that assists Indigenous people to achieve economic, environmental, social and cultural benefits through the acquisition and management of land. It was established in 1995 under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Act 2005 (Cth).
The ILSCE is a specialised unit of the ILSC that focuses on the development and management of commercial agribusiness investments on Indigenous land in partnership with Indigenous people.
Located in West Arnhem Land, NT, Gunbalanya Meats runs a small abattoir and retail butcher shop supplying retail and wholesale products to not only the Gunbalanya community, but other communities and retail outlets around the N.T.
Gunbalanya Meats have vacancies for experienced boners, slaughtermen and butchers for an immediate start. A Certificate III in Bovine Meat Inspection will be looked upon favourably in addition to other skills or qualifications.
Skills we are seeking:
- Experience in processing, boning, slicing and packing for retail and wholesale markets.
- Experience in processing beef and buffalo.
- Knowledge and willingness to adhere to Food Safety Standards and Regulations, SWP protocols and animal welfare laws.
- Knowledge and adherence to hygiene regulations and practices.
- Ability to supervise and pass on skills and knowledge in the work environment.
- Be punctual, engaged and take pride in your work.
- Show initiative and have the ability to work independently and communicate effectively.
- Customer service skills and the ability to inform and assist product selection.
- Experience in retail register use and end of day balancing an advantage.
- Participate in the daily cleaning of the Meat Works, its equipment, and surrounding areas to ensure they are maintained and uphold high hygiene standards.
Driver’s license is required. Rigid truck licence is an advantage but not essential.
