This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of that vision as you work in an engagement role across South-East NSW and the ACT capital regions.
The Senior Engagement Officer for the Canberra and capital region will be located in Woden and will be expected to travel and engage across the ACT and surrounding region. The Senior Engagement Officer (Woden) will be part of the larger SE NSW team and will support the Assistant Director for the ACT and capital region.
The Senior Engagement Officer for the South-East NSW region (Batemans Bay/Nowra) will be expected to travel and engage across a region that includes the Illawarra, Shoalhaven, Eurobodalla and Bega Valley and will support the Assistant Directors for the SE NSW region.
As a Senior Engagement Officer in the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) you will work in genuine partnership to enable the self-determination and aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You will be part of a small team working to influence change across government and ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have a say in the decisions that affect them.

The SE NSW and ACT capital regions’ priorities are embedded in genuine partnerships across communities through place-based practice. The Senior Engagement Officer is integral to the success of implementing the Government’s agenda.
As a NIAA representative in the region and as a member of the engagement team, you will develop strong relationships across the region and ensure that initiatives of the Australian Government are identified and supported on the ground.
The Senior Engagement Officer will be expected to:
- support and promote the shared purpose and direction of the team and the NIAA using our regional presence and knowledge to drive priorities and achieve outcomes
- communicate confidently and with influence across a diversity of internal and external stakeholders involving varying levels of complexity
- represent the team and contribute to building productive relationships and inclusive networks across the region
- understand the work environment and identify broader factors, trends and influences across the region that may impact on the team’s work objectives.
- contribute to business improvement strategies, seeking to identify best practice and share expertise and technical knowledge with team members, peers and more broadly across the agency
- undertake complex procedural, administrative and service-related tasks
- apply sound judgement and common-sense and make evidence-based decisions aligned to the organisational operating environment and legislative frameworks
- create a culturally safe workplace by fostering an environment where the concept of culture and how it influences the workplace and interactions, is understood and, support the implementation of culturally appropriate strategies for working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- promote a healthy and safe workplace environment and model ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values
- assist in planning and coordination of team workflow to ensure even distribution and management of priorities and undertake planning and implementation of small-scale projects.
