The Opportunity:

The NIAA People Branch is a responsive, trusted and reliable partner who provides valued advice and services to enable high performance across the Agency. We are seeking motivated, professional people with relevant skills to fill both current and future vacancies across the Branch.
 

We deliver a range of HR services across the following functions:

·        Capability development

·        Employee health, wellbeing and case management

·        Employment conditions (industrial and workplace relations)

·        HR data and analytics

·        HR strategy

·        Recruitment and Entry Level Programs

·        Performance and behavioural case management

·        SES HR support.
 

We are seeking candidates with strong attention to detail who are capable of delivering practical and accurate advice. People Branch support a diverse and geographically dispersed Agency, with an on the ground presence in every Australian state and territory.
 

We work in partnership to deliver our services and require people that are resilient, flexible and able to work as a team to design and implement new ideas and ways of working that address the unique needs of individuals and communities across Australia.
 

To be successful, you will demonstrate either technical experience and have knowledge of relevant employment frameworks and legislation in your area/s of HR professional expertise or the ability to quickly develop these skills. You will need to be comfortable with influencing and negotiating, interpreting policy and be skilled at building relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

As the lead Commonwealth Agency for Indigenous Australians affairs, you will need to have an appreciation, awareness and understanding of issues relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities and be committed to strengthening your ongoing cultural competency.
 

To be successful in an APS4 role, you will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

· research, interpret and apply HR legislation and policies

· prepare draft responses to general enquires

· assist with providing accurate, timely advice to staff and managers

· contribute to projects and business process improvement activities

· have high quality written and verbal communications skills

·  build strong relationships with stakeholders both internally and externally

· maintain records and data sources to ensure accurate reporting

· provide administrative support to ensure the team functions smoothly

·be self-aware, culturally competent and foster respect and inclusion in the workplace

· demonstrate and promote the APS Values and code of conduct, as well as the NIAA values and behaviours.
 

In addition, to be successful in an APS 5 role you will also demonstrate the following attributes:

· identify and escalate key issues with solutions for how to resolve

· collaborating and developing innovative strategies and approaches

· capability to provide input into strategic HR work

· be able to provide advice on HR matters of a moderate complexity

· sharing knowledge, supporting and guiding others.

Eligibility:

· To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.

· The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level. 

· The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
