About the Indigenous Knowledge Institute
The Indigenous Knowledge Institute aims to advance research and engagement in Indigenous knowledge systems. Established in 2020, the Institute is one of five Melbourne Interdisciplinary Research Institutes that aim to promote research linkages and collaboration across the University and a lead role in articulating University research to external audiences. The Institute is recognised as a global hub for Indigenous wisdom and thought leadership in Indigenous knowledge research with diverse partners across Australia and the world.

About the Role
You will hold an important role within the Institute, where you will be responsible for the creation and management of marketing content across print, digital and multimedia platforms, including the Institute's website, social media, podcasts and other audiovisual resources. You will coordinate Institute events, activities and communications to promote Institute's research and programs via a variety of media outlets.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinate and enhance the Institute's website to ensure it is dynamic and regularly updated.
  • Coordinate the Institute’s social media presence on X and other platforms to increase reach and engagement, and promote Institute activities and events.
  • Develop an annual events calendar and support the design and delivery of these events.
  • Provide support in managing financial transactions and monitor against the Institute budget.

This position is located within the Indigenous Knowledge Institute at the University and reports to its Manager. The Institute aims to work in partnership with Indigenous communities and invests in research initiatives guided by four priority areas:

  • Country — Indigenous knowledge of sustaining environments and ecologies
  • Law — Indigenous knowledge in maintaining law, governance, and social cohesion
  • Culture — Indigenous knowledge as applied through culture and creative expressions
  • Futures — translating Indigenous knowledge for new applications

This role requires that the successful candidate must undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check. This is essential to guarantee a secure environment for all individuals at the University. In the case the selected candidate doesn't have a valid Working with Children Check, they will be able to apply for the WWCC as part of the initial onboarding procedures.

Job Requirements:

About You
You will ideally possess high-level interpersonal and communication skills, along with knowledge and strong relationships across Indigenous communities and organisations. Additionally, you have strong organisational and project management skills.

You will also have:

  • A relevant educational qualification, or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience, education and/or training.
  • Confidence in writing and editing skills with communication proficiency across multiple channels including print, newsletter, website and social media.
  • A demonstrated knowledge and understanding of relevant audiences, channels and considerations relating to Indigenous communities and Indigenous research.
  • Sound computing skills with proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Design Suite, audio-visual recording and editing skills, web content management systems and social media tools.
