- 2x full time/part time maximum term position up to December 2025
- 1x full time/part time up to 14 months (parental leave replacement)
- Salary based on experience, range: $87,799 - $98,901 (pro rata) plus super
- Up to $15,900 in salary packaging and hybrid WFH & office model
About the role:
You will embody the role of a passionate advocate, offering exceptional legal services for those in need. The work you will be involved in includes the provision of legal advice, duty lawyering services and complex casework in civil law matters, with a strong commitment to fighting against sexual harassment and unlawful discrimination.
Join forces with the Equality Law Program team, collaborating with colleagues and bringing to life the expansion of VLA's vital sexual harassment and discrimination law services. Be part of a driving force in the pursuit of genuine equality, engaging in high-impact litigation, transformative legal and policy reform work, and passionately promoting our services to uplift and empower clients.
This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country.
About you:
As our ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Ability to work as a lawyer in complex civil law cases, with some knowledge or practical experience in discrimination law, particularly sexual harassment, as well as familiarity with relevant commission, tribunal, and court procedures.
- Strategic advocacy skills to promote law and policy reform and to raise awareness among relevant stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to promote a cooperative team environment and communicate effectively with clients facing social and economic challenges.
- An understanding of the issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, along with the ability to communicate effectively with these communities.
- Awareness of the needs of clients who have experienced sexual harassment in various settings, and the significance of delivering legal services that are client-centred, trauma-informed, and considerate of the clients' intersectional experiences of discrimination.
- A current Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
- Entitled to practise in federal courts and courts exercising federal jurisdiction (entry on the High Court's Register of Practitioners) (mandatory).
