Shine People Solutions is an Aboriginal owned and operated business, we assist companies to expand their Indigenous workforce and recruit Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across all levels of business.
 
We are currently recruiting for the role of First Nations Cultural Educator, this is an Indigenous Identified role and is only open to applicants who identify as Aboriginal and / or Torres Strait Islander.
 
About the Company
We are recruiting on behalf of The Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH), they are one of Australia's leading public hospitals, renowned for its comprehensive range of healthcare services. Established in 1848, RMH is located in Parkville, a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria.
The First Nations Health Unit focuses on providing culturally appropriate healthcare services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This unit aims to improve health outcomes and access to healthcare for First Nations communities by offering tailored programs and support.
 
About the Role
The First Nations Cultural Educator will enhance awareness and inclusive practices for the health needs of First Nations peoples. This role involves delivering innovative education and training to the RMH workforce on Indigenous best practices, covering areas such as health prevention, intergenerational trauma, and discrimination. This position supports the review and development of training pathways and collaborates with the Royal Melbourne Office of Research and precinct partners to ensure culturally safe healthcare responses.
 
Your duties will include:
  • Design, deliver and coordinate a cultural safety framework to meet the cultural needs of the Indigenous population, and the safety requirements of the RMH community.
  • Prepare and deliver cultural safety training in a range of face-to-face, online, and blended modes such as staff training, student tutorials and cultural immersion as required.
  • Participate in the review and renewal of cultural safety training resources across RMH.
  • Implement an innovative cultural safety training framework, utilising learning approaches that enable, empower, and inform Indigenous best practice education.
  • Consult with and provide advice to RMH staff and community on all matters related to cultural safety.

Job Requirements:

About You
To be successfully considered for this role, you will possess the following skills and experience:
 
  • Commitment to the RMH values - putting people first, leading with kindness and achieving excellence together.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to First Nations Health within mainstream health, primary care, or the welfare sector.
  • Understanding of state and local Aboriginal health issues and initiatives.
  • High-level organisational and administrative skills with a proven ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, with the capability to build and maintain strong relationships across health and community sectors.
  • Ability to develop and implement initiatives aimed at enhancing cultural safety and accessibility for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Indigenous Knowledges, Education, Public Health, Health Promotion, Social Work, or a related field. Candidates with equivalent experience in health education or hospital education are also encouraged to apply. Candidates working towards these qualifications are also considered.
 
Desirable:
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Understand the operations of a major teaching hospital or similar healthcare setting.
