What you’ll be doing
 
The Government is committed to advancing gender equality as a national priority. Working for Women: A Strategy for Gender Equality (the Strategy) outlines where Government will focus effort over the next decade to drive gender equality in Australia.

The Office for Women is the central gender equality institution within the APS, responsible for providing quality gender advice and delivering effective policies and programs for the Minister for Women and the Prime Minister. The Working for Women Program (WfWP) supports implementation of the Strategy. It aims to improve outcomes for women and gender equality in Australia, with a focus on addressing gendered attitudes and stereotypes and taking action across the following five priority areas of the Strategy: Gender-based violence; Unpaid and paid care; Economic equality and security; Health; Leadership, representation, and decision making.

The Working for Women Grants section in the Gender Equality Systems and Partnerships branch is seeking applications to fill an EL1 position to join the team to implement priorities under the WfWP. This is an exciting opportunity to provide high quality grants advice, lead and implement grant rounds across the full grant lifecycle, including design, select, establish and manage phases. The role is also responsible for high level engagement with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally, including funded organisations, working closely with other agencies such as the Department of Finance and Community Grants Hub (Hub), and supporting the Minister for Women.

The successful candidate should be able to work effectively, autonomously and collaboratively within a team. This is an opportunity to join a team that works to deliver on the priorities of the Government. The section administers the Working for Women Program to support the implementation of activities that improve outcomes for women and progress gender equality in Australia. You will gain insight and experience into the Government’s first national strategy for progressing gender equality, and will utilise your grant expertise to ensure that delivery of outcomes align with whole of government grants practices.

Why you’re the ideal candidate

Our ideal candidate is someone:
  • with a good understanding of the Strategy and key gender equality policy issues, and can deliver comprehensive grant policy advice to influence the strategic direction for investment under the WfWP
  • with leadership experience and that can manage a small team to implement grant rounds across the full grant lifecycle, including design, select, establish and manage phases
  • with experience in managing grants and knowledge of the Commonwealth Grant Rules and Guidelines and the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act
  • who is able to manage competing priorities, identify and effectively manage risks and mitigation strategies, commits to action and displays resilience under tight timeframes
  • with strong written and verbal communication skills to prepare and deliver timely, high-quality advice and input to complex requests, and build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships
  • who commits to cultivate and maintain strong and positive working relationships to promote a safe, inclusive and diverse work culture.

Eligibility
