Are you passionate about making a difference in the workplace? Do you have a talent for fostering an inclusive and culturally safe environment? The Aboriginal Health Council of Western Australia (AHCWA) is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic People and Culture Advisor to join our team!

In this pivotal role, you will report to the People and Workforce Manager and will provide flexible, timely, and effective human resource advisory and strategic services to our management team, employees, and Member Services, helping them achieve their business objectives.

As a People and Culture Advisor, you will be an essential member of our team, specialising in employee and industrial relations. Your focus will be on creating a culturally safe and inclusive workplace, enhancing the cultural capacity of our organisation, and championing a person-centric approach to delivering efficient and culturally safe HR services.

Job Requirements:

About You

Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).

ESSENTIAL:

  • Demonstrated experience in HR/P&C advisory roles with a strong focus on Aboriginal employment and cultural capacity building.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management or a related field.
  • Previous experience in the provision of generalist human resource activities including knowledge and understanding of relevant standards and legislation.
  • Demonstrated success and experience working in a similar P&C role, ideally within health or an equally complex, fast-paced environment.
  • An ability to interact with management and employees at all levels of the organisation in the resolution of HR issues.
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills including negotiation and consultation skills and the ability to proactively establish and sustain effective stakeholder relationships.
  • Well-developed organisational and administrative skills, including strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated research, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in contributing to a small team, including the capacity to review and improve workplace practices.
  • Demonstrated capacity to effectively communicate, promote and uphold HR initiatives and values, including discretion and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety including an ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Ideally, in addition to the above, we are looking for someone who has knowledge and an understanding of continuous quality improvement principles, coupled with experience in the practical application of these principles in evaluating organisational and employees’ needs.

Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) prior to appointment.
