Security Officer, Business Operations Support Branch

Job Description:

The Opportunity:
 

As an APS Level 6 Security Officer you would be required to undertake work that is complex in nature, work under limited direction and have the opportunity for reasonable autonomy and accountability. You will be required to exercise personal initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and in the application of practices and procedures. 
 

Security Officers are required to engage with a range of internal and external stakeholders and provide technical and professional advice in relation to complex problems and may assist in strategic planning, program and project management and policy development.
 

The Security Officer supports the Agency Security Adviser in the day-to-day administration of the Physical security function in accordance with the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) by:

•  identifying and managing physical security risks

•  maintaining a safe and secure environment for NIAA personnel, contractors, clients and the members of the public

•  ensuring a secure physical environment for official resources

•  managing physical security measures and access controls to protect facilities, information and physical assets, for example certification of security zones

•  liaising with and managing security contractors in the delivery of security services

•  undertaking strategic planning for preparation of new or green field sites

•  contribute to mandatory annual reporting to Home Affairs and the Minister (as per PSPF)

•  provide periodic reports to the Senior Leadership Committee (SLC), the Executive Board (EB) and the Audit and Risk Committee (ARC)

•  when required, provide surge support to other Teams within the Branch.
 

Our Ideal Candidate
 

Our ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following:

•  knowledge, competencies and skills relevant to protective security that have been obtained through on-the-job training

•  prior experience in a related field or formal qualifications (e.g. tertiary qualifications such as Certificate IV, in Government Security or an equivalent qualification)

•  the ability to contribute to the development /enhancement and implementation of policies and procedures 

•  have well developed written, verbal and communication skills

•  well demonstrated organisational and time management skills

•  capability to work in a highly demanding environment whilst meeting the requirements to submit information in tight timeframes for delivery across the organisation

•  demonstrated capability and commitment to continue to develop cultural competency.

Eligibility:
 

· To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen.

· The occupant must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level. 

· The successful candidate will be required to be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check
