The Circle Courts within the ACT Magistrates Court aim to provide culturally appropriate, restorative and effective sentencing options for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander defendants. The Circle Courts recognise and draw upon the ongoing strengths of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander peoples, communities, and organisations in seeking to address offending behaviour through a culturally sensitive process.
ACTCT are seeking a passionate and experienced person who has a deep understanding of the factors contributing to over representation of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people in the criminal justice system and experience in responding within a trauma-informed, culturally considered, and restorative approach.
The Coordinator will provide oversight, strategic guidance and high-quality delivery of court administration to the Circle Courts. They will support and strengthen a panel of Elders and Respected persons that participate in the Circle Court processes through proactive engagement, development and professional supervision of panel members.
The Coordinator's ability to advise on complex policy and procedural matters, in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues and the criminal justice system will be highly valued.
Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
