Job Description:

The Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) assists Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to realise economic, social, cultural and environmental benefits that the ownership and management of land, water and water related rights can bring. The ILSC Agribusiness is a specialised unit of the ILSC that focuses on the development and management of commercial agribusiness investments on Indigenous land in partnership with Indigenous people. ILSC Agribusiness currently operates Gunbalanya Meats located in West Arnhem Land, NT.

 

Gunbalanya Meats operates a small abattoir and retail butcher shop supplying retail and wholesale products to not only the Gunbalanya community, but other communities and retail outlets around the N.T. Gunbalanya Meats have vacancies for experienced boners, slaughtermen and butchers for an immediate start. A cert III in Bovine Meat Inspection will be looked upon favourably.  

 

Duties include but are not limited to: 

  • Providing friendly customer service in the retail butcher shop 
  • Perform the duties of slicing, preparation, and/or packing of fresh meat including the manufacturing or processing of meat for retail or sale 
  • Processing of Beef and Buffalo in the abattoir in a safe and hygienic manner 
  • Ensure cash handling is accurate and balances with till records 
  • Abide by existing laws on animal welfare and ensure all employees on the Meatworks do the same 
  • Maintain qualifications and competencies in all aspects of a meat works to enable Gunbalanya Meats to produce a wholesome and hygienic product 
  • Participate in the daily cleaning of the Meat Works, its equipment and surrounding areas to ensure they are maintained and uphold high hygiene standards 

 

Driver’s license is required. Rigid truck licence is an advantage but not essential

Training provided for relevant Meat Industry requirements as needed, as well as other ongoing training opportunities over the course of each year.
