Trainee Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner & General Mediator - First Nations

Seeking a dedicated First Nations Trainee Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner who is passionate about making a difference in the lives of families and providing a child inclusive mediation practice.

ABOUT THE ROLE:
 

 A fantastic opportunity has become available for a First Nations identified candidate to come board in the position of a Trainee Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner & General Mediator. We are seeking a dedicated person who is willing to study and work towards making a difference in the lives of families and providing a child inclusive mediation practice.

This position with direct supervision will undertake on the job training and is required to observe and assist qualified FDRPs in their delivery of family dispute resolution, mediation services and child inclusive practice; including intake assessments, and parenting agreements under the jurisdiction of the Family Law Act.

 

Permanent full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week and will be based at our Dubbo Family Relationship Centre with some flexibility to do some work from home.

The successful applicant will be required to have access to their own vehicle. The hourly rate as a Trainee is $36.32 plus super.


Ongoing employment in this role is based upon the successful completion of and obtaining relevant tertiary qualifications and accreditation with the Attorney General’s Department as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.

This position has been identified as a role requiring a First Nations worker to work closely with the local community and support the Organisation through the provision of information and advice related to working with First Nations communities.

Job Requirements:

Eligibility to enrol in an approved dispute resolution/mediation/conciliation course that leads to qualification as a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner and General Mediator.


Please note: The successful applicant will need to be eligible to enrol in the Graduate Diploma of Family Dispute Resolution through the Mediation Institute. In addition to the minimum qualifications, we are looking for candidates with strong skills in conflict management, interpersonal skills, communication, writing, relationship building skills and ethics.
 

ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • First Nations background (Interrelate considers that being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational qualification under section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977, NSW)
  • Eligibility to enrol in an approved dispute resolution/mediation/conciliation course that leads to qualification as a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (as per “Minimum Qualifications”)
  • Discuss with us your knowledge and understanding of:

         - the impact of family separation and breakdown on children

         - child development, child protection, mandatory reporting, suicide                 
           prevention/ intervention and family violence issues the issues facing
           diverse communities, including First Nations, CALD and remote communities

  • Demonstrated experience and skills in:

         - administration and organisation skills

         - working with online systems and technology
