Publications and Digital Manager

Job Description:

Who we are and what we do

The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) is an Australian Government Agency charged with promoting and improving gender equality in Australian workplaces. Each year, employers with 100 or more employees report their gender equality data to WGEA. We use this information to track national progress on workplace gender equality and to provide advice and assistance to employers on ways they can improve equality in their organisation.

At WGEA you will be part of a team of high achievers who are friendly and fun. We understand what working flexibly means. We pride ourselves on being a respectful, diverse, and inclusive community. We encourage and welcome applications from people of all genders and ages, Indigenous Australians, people with disability and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Why this role matters

The Publications and Digital Manager plays a crucial role in shaping WGEA’s narrative, driving engagement and empowering employer action.

You will sit within WGEA’s small but mighty Communications and Campaigns team, reporting to the Acting Executive Manager of Communications and Campaigns. If you heard about employer gender pay gaps, you’ve seen our work. We’re on a mission to create a society where everyone, regardless of gender, thrives and succeeds.

In this role you will design, implement, and take responsibility for WGEA’s external print and digital publications strategy. You use your exceptional communication and analytical skills to help us reach a broader audience, including men, to educate and spur action to improve workplaces for everyone.

If you have a sharp eye for a story, the ability to spot an errant full stop, exceptional project management skills and a keen desire to use your communications skills to create meaningful change, then this role is for you.

You are someone who can:

  • Strategise – plan, develop and implement digital strategies, goals and workplans aligned with a broader communications strategy.
  • Write – create engaging Plain English print and digital content to effectively communicate key messages related to workplace gender equality.
  • Edit – work closely across WGEA teams to ensure external publications have appropriate structure, correct grammar, perfect punctuation and the right tone of voice.
  • Project manage – keep track of multiple projects and content pieces and ensure working groups meet their deadlines.
  • Communicate and collaborate  – use your excellent written and oral communications skills to build and sustain positive relationships with team members, stakeholders and vendors.
  • Analyse – pick out the key trends and points for communication using Google Analytics, WGEA’s world-leading dataset and our many publications.

We are seeking an individual with the following skills and capabilities:

  • experience with project management in a deadline-driven content production environment such as a newsroom, publishing house or marketing agency.
  • able to write engaging, Plain English content that is specific, succinct, and engaging for both an employer audience and the public.
  • demonstrated experience managing and creating content for organisational social media accounts.
  • Experience sub-editing and proof-reading for both long form publications and short form social / digital media.
  • CMS and SEO experience and an understanding of engagement and readability best-practice for digital content.
  • strong understanding of data analysis for mass audiences with a knack for explaining key points in simple terms.
  • professional experience with Google Analytics.
  • relevant tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, marketing or related field or proven industry experience.
  • ability to work independently and flexibly, with some supervision, analysing and using some judgement to select an appropriate course of action.
  • demonstrate a principled approach to the APS Values and Code of Conduct, always acting professionally.
  • Baseline Security clearance or the ability to obtain clearance (this includes being an Australian Citizen).

What’s on offer?

  • a full-time or part-time non-ongoing role with the potential for on-going after 12 months.
  • flexible working arrangements.
  • modern CBD offices (Kent Street Sydney) along with hybrid working.
  • a culture that is committed to achieving results and that values innovation.
  • the ability to undertake meaningful work and to empower action.
  • an attractive salary package, including generous superannuation and a range of other benefits.
